Motor Equipment Operator
Distinguishing Features of the Position
The work involves the responsibility for performing limited types of recurring manual duties in connection with the operation of various types of motor equipment. General instructions are received from a superior, however, the safe and economical operation and care of the equipment is the responsibility of the employee. Periodic inspections are made of the work in progress.
Related work is done as required.
Typical Work Activities (Illustrative Only)
Operate a truck in connection with the removal of snow, and in the transportation of passengers, equipment, sand, gravel and supplies.
Operate a tractor or truck with power mower, trailer, snow loader, bulldozer, concrete mixer, stone crusher, or other equipment.
Operate a power grader, roller, or snow plow.
Perform manual labor such as loading trucks, erecting snow fences, cleaning culverts and shoveling snow, gravel, cold patch.
Full Performance, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics.
Willingness to perform routing manual work, ability to lift heavy weights (up to 100 lbs.), physical endurance (walk at least 1 mile), good physical condition.
Good knowledge of the operation of tractors, trucks and other construction equipment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Mechanical aptitude, physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a grade school education, one year experience in the operation of some type of automotive equipment.
Special Requirement-
Eligibility for an appropriate license issued by the NYS
Department of Motor Vehicles. Possession of license at the time of appointment.
